Title: Effect Of Population Growth And Financial Development On Economic Growth In Nigeria

Abstract: This study examined the linkage between population growth and financial development on economic growth in Nigeria. The empirical analysis employed a timeseries analysis from the period 1980 to 2019. The data were examined with the use of econometrics technique of VECM. The result shows that there is a significant long run positive linkage between Population growth (POP), Financial Development (FD) which is the proxy for Domestic Credit to private sector by banks (% of GDP), Total fertility rate (FER) and Mortality Rate (MORT) which has a positive significant impact on the economic growth in Nigeria while economic growth (GDP) and population growth (POP) has a negative significant impact on economic growth in Nigeria. Sequel to the findings, the study recommend that the Nigerian government is notified to make direct efforts toward checking the alarming fertility rate in Nigeria.
