Abstract: | Examined here is government's agricultural expenditures and agricultural outputs in Nigeria from 1980 2016. Data for the empirical analyses were collected from the apex bank's source. The Autoregressive Distributed Lag analytical processes were applied. The ADF's unit root tests' results for the variables revealed mixed (zero and one) orders of integrations, which supports Bounds' test for cointegartion. As a result, cointegrating association was evidenced? and the dynamic analysis outcomes showed government's recurrent and capital outlays as significant influencers of agricultural output over the sampled period but commercial banks' credits and the apex bank's guaranteed agricultural credits scheme funds for the sector insignificantly influenced the regressand. It is therefore concluded that fiscal policy easing for agricultural recurrent and capital spendings are critical for driving outputs of the sector. Given these findings, the recommendations amongst others are that government should expand capital outlays in agricultural sector to enhance agricultural capital formation of longterm characters, which may include 'construction of good roads, ports, railway system, canals, dams as well as water storage systems, etc. not forgetting to put in place proper monitoring mechanisms for ensuring effective and accountable utilization of budgetary allocations aimed at boosting agricultural sector's output. |
