| Abstract: | This study investigates the relationship between dynamics of trade openness and rising curve of general price level in Nigeria, from1981 to 2019 using annual time series data sourced from World Bank and Central Bank of Nigeria statistical bulletin. It uses trade openness, exchange rate, imports and exports as explanatory variables and inflation as the dependent variable and adopts ECM econometric techniques for the analysis. The results indicate that relationship exists in both short and long run between the two sets variables? except for exports. Consequently, the study concludes that dynamics of trade openness and rising curve of general price level in Nigeria has significant asymmetric relationship in both short and long run. The study recommends that the government should put policies in place to discourage and control importation of goods and services due to its relationship with and effect on inflation. |
