| Title: | Challenges And Prospects Of Corruption Control In Nigeria |
| Author(s): | PETER Peter Finebone |
| Abstract: | Corruption indeed is the bane of any nation. Its malady cut across every religious denomination and political system and it affects both young and old, man and woman alike. The menace has reached an unprecedented level, it is like cancer that contaminates all strata of the sociopolitical and economic structure of any society and its malignant nature is difficult to treat. This paper, therefore attempts holistic measures on the challenges and prospects of its control in Nigeria. The paper attempts to reveal the view or understanding of Nigerian officials on corruption, its effects and the efforts of the government towards reducing corruption in Nigeria. However, this paper further attempts to look at the prospects of controlling corruption in Nigeria. The paper was based on Two Public Theory. The qualitative method was adopted for the study. The secondary data collected were subjected to content analysis. The paper revealed that corruption is gradually becoming a social norm. The morale and legal support given to corruption officials enhance the proliferation of corruption in Nigeria. Thus, corruption has been entrenched among the public officials partly due to more expectation from the general public especially from politicians’ constituencies. The lack of independent of the anticorruption agencies compounded the fight against corruption in Nigeria. Based on the above findings, the paper recommended among other things that: there should be public enlightenment of citizens on the danger associated with corruption. This would discourage the culture of eulogized corrupt officials in Nigeria. |
