The study adopted the quasi-experimental research design. Secondary data were used in this study. The method employed for analyzing the time series data was the Auto Regressive Distributed Lag (ARDLECM) model. Preestimation diagnostics tests were employed to check for stationarity of the data. After estimation, the model was subjected to some diagnostics tests to verify how reliable and efficient it is for purposes of forecast and policy prescription. All the variables were found to be stationary at first difference and at level from the unit root test. From the results of the ARDLECM regression model (PREXPA) was significant and rightly signed (4.88E05) meaning that public recurrent expenditure brought about increase in crop production in the country. The study concluded that government financing to agriculture (public recurrent expenditure) have significant and positive influence on crop production in Nigeria, and recommended that proper supervision should be placed on agricultural credit guaranteed scheme and public capital expenditure to agriculture so their impact will also be felt in the crop sector. |
